Christ Tells His followers, Do Not Worry…
Scriptures:
Matthew 6:25-34 NASB
25 “For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is life not more than food, and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the sky, that they do not sow, nor reap, nor gather crops into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more important than they? 27 And which of you by worrying can add a single day to his life’s span? 28 And why are you worried about clothing? Notice how the lilies of the field grow; they do not labor nor do they spin thread for cloth, 29 yet I say to you that not even Solomon in all his glory clothed himself like one of these. 30 But if God so clothes the grass of the field, which is alive today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, will He not much more clothe you? You of little faith! 31 Do not worry then, saying, ‘What are we to eat?’ or ‘What are we to drink?’ or ‘What are we to wear for clothing?’ 32 For the Gentiles eagerly seek all these things; for your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be provided to you.34 “So do not worry about tomorrow; for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Be Encouraged:
In these verses in the Book of Matthew, Christ Himself, the creator and sustainer of the entire universe, the one who created you in your mothers’ womb, the one who feeds you, and the one who clothes you says, Do Not Worry! So why then do we disobey Christ’s command not to worry? Why do we often find ourselves spending hours if not months or years worrying about the same things that keep coming up? Let us take our concerns and bring them to Christ in prayer. Oftentimes we don’t take Christ’s words and apply them. He says, “Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all these other things will be added unto you.” What does it mean to seek first the Kingdom of God? The Lord Himself is essentially making a covenant with His followers. The covenant is this, if you put God’s interests first in your life, He is saying that He will guarantee your future needs and that you will never lack the necessities to sustain your life. Do we believe Him at His word? What needs to happen for us to understand this? Perhaps a trial of some sort or a rebuke would help us. Brother’s and Sister’s in Christ, let us be diligent to Seek first His Kingdom and His Righteousness every morning and throughout the day. Let us not worry about tomorrow. Let us be disciplined and focus on today and to do our best today. Tomorrow is not guaranteed, so do not worry about it. Of course we should plan and work hard. God is honored by our plans and hard work, especially when they are in accordance with His will for our lives, but we must never worry. When we worry, we doubt the Goodness of God and His ability to make good on His promises. Christ says to look at the birds, they don’t sow or reap or gather into barns yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. In other words, the birds are not hoarding food just in case He decides not to provide for them in the future. You Brother or Sister are much much much more valuable in the eyes of God then they are. So Do Not Worry, only Trust and have Faith! Do the daily work that God has prepared for you to do and when you have completed it all, He will bring you home one day. What a glorious day that will be!
