What is Redemption?
The word Redemption in the Bible describes the act whereby we were bought from the slave market of sin and death (Romans 6:23). The Lord Jesus valued all that the Father had given Him (John 6:39, John 10:11-16) so much that He willfully laid down His life to redeem us and save us from sin and just wrath in hell. Not only has He redeemed us, but He has forgiven us of our sins. This means that God has cancelled the debt which our sins incurred. The Lord Jesus Christ paid the penalty on the cross; it never has to be paid again. It is finished! The account is settled and closed, and God has not only forgiven, but He has removed our sins as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). This is the Good News of the Gospel! There is redemption in Christ Alone! If you are in Christ and are saved by Him, it should be clear that we no longer belong to ourselves; we have been bought with a price. Therefore we should not live our lives the way we choose, but live them according to His perfect will for us.
Key Scriptures:
Colossians 1:13-14 “Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son: In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins…”
Romans 3:24-26 “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus.”
John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.“
John 8:36 “ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.“
Be Encouraged:
Brothers and Sisters, If you have been a believer for any length of time, you know that if we try to take our lives and do what we want with them, we are taking something that doesn’t belong to us, and therefore we are acting as thieves and are in sin. God will quickly correct us and lead us back to His path. We must be ready and willing to tell slaves of sin (which we once were) where to find redemption and forgiveness of sins. This is our mandate. This is why we remain on this earth. God has work for His followers to do and it brings Him great glory when they walk in them (Ephesians 2:10). You Brothers and Sisters are among the redeemed of Christ Jesus; let Him take charge of your life this day. He is a Good Shepherd and as a Good Shepherd, He will lose none of His sheep and furthermore He will guide them (John 10:11-16). Let us never attempt to put on former yokes of bondage to sin, but let us walk in newness of life, a life that is truly free.
