The Guidance of God:
The Divine Guidance of our God is one of the most practical and interesting subjects to any Christians life. To say things like, “I feel led of the Lord” or, “Is the Holy Spirit prompting me?” or, “I think this is God’s Will for my life.” If we are sincere, we would always be somewhat perplexed and never really arrive at an answer with any certainty. These types of expressions are used often in Christian circles. Although not error, they do however draw our minds away from the Divine Guidance that the Lord has already given us in His Holy Word. Right thinking proceeds right living, thus let us instead think things like, “Is this in harmony with God’s Word?” or, “Does it square with the rule God has given us to walk by?” or, “Is it in accord with the example which Christ left us to follow?” Always remember this, If it is in harmony with God’s Word, it is according to God’s Will. If it’s not in God’s Word, forget what you heard. God’s Guidance always leads to paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:3). A great deal of puzzling uncertainty will be removed if the question “Is this according to God’s will?” be replaced with a more tangible question like, “Is this according to God’s Word?”
Scriptures:
Psalm 119:105 “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.”
John 8:12 Jesus said, “I am the light of the world: he who follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
Psalm 23:3 “He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.”
Psalm 32:8 “I will instruct thee and teach thee in the way which thou shalt go: I will guide thee with mine eye.”
Be Encouraged:
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, God has given His practical Holy Word to us as believers for a reason, to use it to walk in the paths of righteousness. Psalm 119:105, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” Brothers and Sisters, it would do a traveler who is in the dark little good to diligently scrutinize the mechanism of a lamp, or to admire its beautiful design. Rather, it would make more sense to use the lamp as it is intended, to light your path. We live in a very dark place with temptations from Satan, indwelling sinful lusts, and danger from those who wish to harm us. Do not be a Christian who just admires the lamp of God’s Word, but never uses it, who never uses it to order the details of their life and to live by its rules and regulations. Let us walk by the light of Scripture and be led by our Good Shepherd to paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:1,3). God is guiding you, even when you aren’t thinking about it. Let us be about His business and order our everyday conduct according to His Word.
