The Beatitudes of a Christ Follower: Peace Maker

Peace Maker:

There is a strong distinction between a “peacemaker” and a “peace lover”. Peace lovers are passive in their pursuit of peace. The natural man’s response is to watch strife from the sidelines where it is more comfortable. Peace lovers prefer not to do the work to make their relationships right. They apply the old phrase “Out of sight, out of mind” when it comes to pursuing peace. They figure that if the person, place, or thing that causes them inner conflict is not near them that they have achieved true peace. We often hear people say, “I’m going to get some peace and quiet”, “Or I’m at peace here”, but for the Christian, lasting peace on this earth will always escape us. It is not until we are hand in hand with our Lord and Savior in Heaven that we will experience that type of eternal peace. So what has God called us to do while we are here? We are to be like Christ, a peacemaker. Peacemakers actively intervene to make peace. Think of Christ, he took positive action to create peace, even with those who abused, criticized, and hated Him. There was one time when we as Christ followers were numbered among His enemies, but He made peace with us by laying down His life for us. Who do you need to make peace with here on this earth? Is it a son, daughter, mother, father, or friend? Peace lovers = passivity, while Peacemakers = activity.

Scriptures:

Matthew 5:9KJV
“Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.”

Matthew 5:44-45KJV

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Romans 12:18KJV

If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

Be Encouraged:

Brothers and Sisters in Christ let us be known as imitators of Christ who suffers long with offences that would create strife among us. Let us be known as peacemakers, actively seeking to help make peace between all people. Christ says, “Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.” Understand that it is not the world that will call you sons of God, they will call you fools; it is God Himself who will call you His son or daughter. Let us seek to make peace with all men. Let us be those who tell men how they can have peace with God. “If possible, so far as it depends on you, be at peace with all people” (Romans 12:18). That goes for All skin colors, All languages, and All ages. Our God is a peacemaking God and if we are following Him, our words and actions will also be that of a peacemaker. Let us be active peace makers and not a peace takers.
