Scriptural Proof of Christ’s Deity by His Receiving of Worship

Scriptural Proof of Christ's Deity_by Worship

This week we continue our look at the deity of Christ and how Christ received the worship that belongs to God alone.

This Week:

Worship

Scriptures:

Matthew 2:11

“And when they were come into the house, they saw the young child with Mary his mother, and fell down, and worshipped him: and when they had opened their treasures, they presented unto him gifts; gold, and frankincense and myrrh.”

Matthew 9:18

While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

Matthew 14:29-33

29And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.30 But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.31 And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? 32 And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.

Matthew 8:2

2 And, behold, there came a leper and worshipped him, saying, Lord, if thou wilt, thou canst make me clean.3 And Jesus put forth his hand, and touched him, saying, I will; be thou clean. And immediately his leprosy was cleansed.

Matthew 21:9

“And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna to the son of David: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest.”

John 12:13

The people,“Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord.”

Matthew 28:9-10

9 And as they went to tell his disciples, behold, Jesus met them, saying, Rejoice. And they came and held him by the feet, and worshipped him.10 Then said Jesus unto them, Be not afraid: go tell my brethren that they go into Galilee, and there shall they see me.

John 20:27-29

27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.

Worship:

Throughout Scripture Jesus received the Worship that belongs to God alone. Worship such as:

1). Jesus is worshiped by kings and rulers (Matthew 2:11, Matthew 9:18),

2). Jesus is worshiped after displaying His Power (Matthew 14:29-33, Matthew 8:2),

3). Jesus is worshiped as a King (Matthew 8:2, John 12:13, Hosanna means salvation. It is an exclamation of adoration which in this case was directed to Jesus).

4). Jesus is worshiped after His resurrection from the dead (Matthew 28:9-10, John 20:27-29)

Because Jesus received the Worship that belongs to God alone and never rebuked those who worshipped Him, it is clear from scripture that Jesus is God.

Be Encouraged:  Brothers and Sisters in Christ, do you fully acknowledge Christ’s Deity? Does all of your worship go towards God alone? Do you worship the flesh, money, or power? If you do in any form, repent this moment and worship God alone. As you saw in the verses above, Christ received the worship that belongs to God alone. He never rebuked those individuals that rightly prostrated themselves before Him with words of adoration and reverence. The word for “worshipped” in the original Greek means to, “prostrate oneself in homage (to reverence, or adore)”, (Strong’s G4352). When Thomas had seen the resurrected Christ, he was convinced that Christ was indeed Lord and God. Thomas at last acknowledged Christ’s Deity which he could not comprehend until he saw the wounds that Christ had shown him. Jesus did not rebuke Thomas when he said, “My Lord and my God”. If Christ were only a man like Thomas was, He should have corrected Thomas, but instead said “Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” That is Christ’s Word for you this day. He calls you blessed or fortunate because you have yet to see Christ but still believe. One day Brothers and Sisters it will be you who is standing before the exalted Christ. Can you confidently say, “My Lord and my God?”
