Attributes of God: Love

Love of God

Love of God:

The Word of God teaches us that we as Christ Followers only Love because God first loved us (1 John 4:19). This love was from all eternity. Even before you were in your mother’s womb you were on the mind of God. There is nothing within you that was a cause for God to start loving you and you don’t do anything now that makes God keep loving you. Our God is a God of Love. The word Love is often thrown around very loosely in our day, but scripture teaches a much more profound Love.

God’s Love Is Intra-Trinitarian Love (The love God shows toward humanity is a love that first existed within the Godhead John 3:35), God’s Love Is Infinite (When Christ comes to live inside your heart, He brings the Father’s infinite love with Him), God’s Love Is Sacrificial (True love is a love that gives, John 3:16), God’s Love Is Volitional (It is a choice of God’s will, 1 John 4:19), and lastly God’s Love Is Eternal (There is no beginning or end to His love, Jeremiah 31:3).

“God loves each of us as if there were only one of us” ~ St. Augustine

Scriptures:

1 John 4:7-11  “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another.”

John 17:20-21 “Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.”

Be Encouraged:
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, remember Romans 8:38-39, “For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” As the verse says, there is nothing that can separate you from the love of God. Nothing means nothing. God is Love. If we want to know what love is like, then we must get to know God more. Let us as Christ followers show our love to God by obeying His every word. Let us throw off any sin that will diminish our abiding fellowship with Him. Let us not open doors to sin that need not be opened. Let us not commit spiritual fornication by worshiping self or worshiping false god’s. We must purge every thought or thing that is not with Christ. Because as Christ says in Matthew 12:30 “He that is not with me is against me”. Let us question everything that we allow into our hearts and minds. Examine your steps Brothers and Sisters and make sure that everything that you do is for Christ who loves you and has saved you. Examine your family traditions, words and phrases, holidays, and relationships and make sure that Christ is in everything. The days are evil and we must be children of the light and walk in the light and love of God each day. Don’t grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). Let us be about our Fathers business today and know that He loves us!
