Scriptural Proof of Christ’s Deity by His Works

Scriptural Proof of Christ's Deity_by Works

Among many things within Christianity, the Deity of Christ is often misunderstood or even denied by many professing Christ followers. Christ’s deity is the corner stone of Christianity and we as Christ followers must be able to tell others what we believe and why we believe it. Over the next few weeks, we will be looking closer at the Deity of Christ from scripture. You will learn how to give evidence from scripture that Christ was indeed God incarnate. To focus our thoughts, we will be using the simple acrostic, WWANE.  The word WWANE has no meaning in and of itself. It is just a simple way to remember the following: Works, Worship, Attributes, Names, and Equality

Our goal is to unpack each of the letters in greater detail giving you a solid line of defense anytime the Deity of Christ comes up in a conversation. As many of you may know, Jehovah’s Witnesses, and Mormons reject the Biblical teaching of the Deity of Christ and are in desperate need of salvation.

This Week:

Works

Scriptures:

Colossians 1:15-17

Paul when speaking of Jesus said, “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.”

 John 1:1-3

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Matthew 9:2-6

And, behold, they brought to him a man sick of the palsy, lying on a bed: and Jesus seeing their faith said unto the sick of the palsy; Son, be of good cheer; thy sins be forgiven thee. And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts? For whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Arise, and walk? But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house.

Luke 7:48

Jesus when speaking of the woman caught in adultery, “And he said unto her, Thy sins are forgiven.”

John 7:38-39

38“He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” 39(But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)

John 14:26

“But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.”

Works:

Jesus throughout Scripture performs the works that only God can perform. Works such as:

1). Jesus created everything out of nothing (Colossians 1:15-17, John 1:1-3, Genesis 1:1),

2). Jesus forgives sin (Matthew 9:2-6, Luke 7:48),

3). Jesus sends the Holy Spirit (John 7:38-39, John 14:26).

Because Jesus did the same works that only God can do, it is evident from scripture that Jesus is indeed God incarnate.

Be Encouraged:  Brothers and Sisters in Christ, only God can create everything out of nothing, only God can forgive you of your sins, and only God gives us His Holy Spirit (Comforter) when we believe. That is why when we read about Jesus doing the same works as God, we must logically conclude from scripture that He was God in human form. Brothers and Sisters, God has fully expressed Himself to mankind in the Person of the Lord Jesus Christ. By coming into the world, Christ has perfectly revealed to us what God is like. He showed us Gods Love when He died for guilty sinners on a manmade cross. He showed us Gods compassion by healing the sick and forgiving them of their sins. He showed us an example of how to pray and worship God for who He is. This should bring a sense of awe and worship within your heart. Let us draw near to Christ and worship Him for who He is, God incarnate.
