Thus far we have seen from scripture how Jesus performed the works that only God can perform. We have also seen how Jesus received the worship that belongs to God alone. This week we continue our look at the Deity of Christ and how Christ possessed the same attributes that are exclusive to God Almighty.
This Week:
Attributes
Scriptures:
Matthew 9:3-4 (Omniscience)
“And, behold, certain of the scribes said within themselves, This man blasphemeth. And Jesus knowing their thoughts said, Wherefore think ye evil in your hearts?”
John 2:24-25 (Omniscience)
“But Jesus did not commit himself unto them, because he knew all men, And needed not that any should testify of man: for he knew what was in man.”
John 4:28-30 (Omniscience)
“The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.
Matthew 12:25 (Omniscience)
“And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand…”
Luke 6:8 (Omniscience)
“But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.”
Matthew 19:25-26 (Omnipotent)
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved? But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.
John 10:17-18 (Omnipotent)
“Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again. No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.”
Matthew 14:19-20 (Omnipotent)
And he commanded the multitude to sit down on the grass, and took the five loaves, and the two fishes, and looking up to heaven, he blessed, and brake, and gave the loaves to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude. And they did all eat, and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that remained twelve baskets full.
Matthew 28:20 (Omnipresent)
“Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.”
Matthew 10:29–31 (Sovereign)
Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
Matthew 28:17-18 (Sovereign/ Omnipotent)
And when they saw him, they worshipped him: but some doubted. And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
John 14:6-7 (Truth and Life)
Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.
Luke 4:33-34 (Holy)
And in the synagogue there was a man, which had a spirit of an unclean devil, and cried out with a loud voice, Saying, Let us alone; what have we to do with thee, thou Jesus of Nazareth? art thou come to destroy us? I know thee who thou art; the Holy One of God.
2 Corinthians 5:21 (Holy and Sinless)
“For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.”
John 5:21-23 (Righteous Judge)
For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will. For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son: That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.
Attributes:
Throughout Scripture we see how Jesus possessed the same attributes that belonged to God alone. Attributes such as:
1). Omniscience, which means that Jesus is All Knowing (Matthew 9:3-4, John 2:24-25, John 4:28-30, Matthew 12:25, Luke 6:8),
2). Omnipotent, which means that Jesus is All Powerful (Matthew 19:25-26, John 10:17-18, Matthew 14:19-20),
3). Omnipresent, which means Jesus is now everywhere Present (Matthew 28:20)
4). Sovereign, which means that Jesus is in Control (Matthew 10:29-31, Matthew 28:17-18).
5). Truth and Life (John 14:6-7)
6). Holy and Sinless (Luke 4:33-34, 2 Corinthians 5:21)
7). Righteous Judge (John 5:21-23)
Because Jesus possesses the same attributes that belong to God alone, it is clear from scripture that Jesus is God.
Be Encouraged:
Brothers and Sisters in Christ, throughout scripture we read how Jesus healed the sick, created food, raised the dead to life, forgave sins, knew people’s thoughts, casted out demons, controlled the weather, taught with authority, and lived a sinless life of Holiness. This is just a short list of the attributes of Christ, but there are many more. We can stand on the Word of God and the claims of Christ as a firm foundation to show others that He indeed was who He said He was. As many of you know there is an attack on Biblical Christianity, not only from without but from within. We as Christ followers must be diligent to know what we believe and why we believe it. Let us never be those who water down the Gospel message or alter the teachings of Christ in an attempt to lure someone into following Christ. When we water down the Gospel and alter the teachings of Christ, we are not doing what He commanded us to do, but are preaching a different gospel. Our job Brothers and Sisters is to live a life that is consistent with our profession of faith in Him and to do His will while we still have time. Share the Gospel in its full strength and know that the outcome is in His hands. Let us be found doing His work when He comes again!
