The Goodness of God:
The Goodness of God is not something that He shows off from time to time or something that can be experienced by only a select number of individuals, but His Goodness is an overflow of who He is. His word says that He is Good to ALL (Psalm 145:9) and that His tender mercies are over all that He has made. God is Good to all of His creation, which includes both sinful mankind and the animal kingdom. He waters the earth in due season and He feeds all of us, both sinner and saint (Acts 14:17). All sinners deserve the righteous wrath of God, but it is His Goodness and Patience towards us that leads us to repentance and faith in Him. He is not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9).
God the Father has not only given us all that we have and see before our eyes, but daily preserves and defends us against all evil and misfortune, averts all sorts of danger and calamity; and that He does all this out of pure love and goodness, without our merit, as a benevolent Father, who cares for us that no evil befall us. —Martin Luther
Scriptures:
Psalm 145:8–17 “8 The Lord is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9 The Lord is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. 10 All thy works shall praise thee, O Lord; and thy saints shall bless thee. 11 They shall speak of the glory of thy kingdom, and talk of thy power; 12 To make known to the sons of men his mighty acts, and the glorious majesty of his kingdom. 13 Thy kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and thy dominion endureth throughout all generations. 14 The Lord upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. 15 The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. 16 Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. 17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.”
1 Chronicles 16:34 “O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth for ever.”
Romans 2:4 “Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”
Be Encouraged:
Brothers and Sisters, no matter how hard your life gets here on this Earth, know that if you are in Christ, this life is as hard as it will ever get for you. Let your present discomforts or pain glorify our Good God (1 Peter 4:12-19). None of us deserves the Goodness of God. The fact that the most wicked person on earth can wake up to a beautiful sunrise or breathe fresh air is a testament to the Goodness and Patience of God. He is good even to His enemies, which we once were (Romans 5:8). Any abundance that you currently have (food, money, possessions, protection, being loved) all comes from our Good Father who is the source and overflow of anything Good and Pure (James 1:17). Let us be those who point others to our Good Father who is Patient and not willing that they perish under His coming judgment of sin, but that they would receive salvation in Christ. Now is the time and today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2). Don’t hold onto the message of the Good news of the Gospel, but broadcast it to anyone and everyone that you can.
